Common questions

What is the difference between fax classification and fax triage?

Classification determines what a document is. Triage determines how urgent it is and how quickly someone must respond. A lab result and a critical lab value are the same document type but carry very different response requirements, so classification alone cannot set priority.

Can AI actually tell which incoming documents are urgent?

Yes, when it scores on document contents rather than document type alone. Provenza reads the values and language inside each document to assign a criticality tier, which then determines the response SLA, routing and escalation path. Tier definitions are configured per practice and signed off clinically before go-live.

Do we have to change fax providers?

No. Provenza works on the inbound documents arriving through the fax setup a practice already runs, rather than requiring migration to a new fax service or a separate inbox.

Is AI fax triage HIPAA compliant?

It can be, when the vendor signs a Business Associate Agreement and applies appropriate safeguards. Provenza processes protected health information under a signed BAA, with encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access control, and a complete audit trail for every document and action.

What happens if nobody actions an urgent fax?

Provenza tracks time-to-disposition against the response SLA assigned at intake. As an item approaches its deadline it is flagged, and when the deadline passes it escalates automatically along the path defined for its criticality tier. The breach is recorded either way, so the pattern shows up in reporting rather than staying invisible in a queue.

How accurate is it, and what happens when it is wrong?

We will publish measured accuracy with sample size and method once we have it from real deployments rather than internal tests. In the meantime, low-confidence items route to human review rather than being filed silently, and every automated decision is reversible and logged.
